2020 which was expected to be a stellar year for the film industry has quickly turned sour. With multiple incidents that affected audience footfalls, finally ending with a global lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, the film industry is reeling. However, a few films did release and managed to captivate the audience, and in this special report we take a look at the top grossers at the overseas box office in the first quarter of 2020.
Collecting USD 4.92 million [Rs. 36.83 cr] the Ajay Devgn starrer Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior claims the top spot as the highest overseas grosser in the first quarter of 2020. Following Tanhaji, are other releases like the Tiger Shroff starrer Baaghi 3 that collected USD 3.30 million [Rs. 24.70 cr], Chhappak that collected USD 2.10 million [Rs. 15.72 cr] and Street Dancer 3D that had collected USD 2.04 million [Rs. 15.27 cr].
Currently, with a global lockdown enforced till mid-April, it remains to be seen how the new releases will fare after the lockdown has been lifted. However, trade predictions state that the audience will take time to venture into crowded areas like theatres for a while.
